The aim of this video is to highlight the tradition of repair and recovery, as repairing is a key means of reducing waste, tackling the climate crisis and contributing to the circular economy. Repairing enables a more efficient use of products and a more careful approach to our resources. The video will also turn the spotlight on the ‘repair festival’, which offers a rich programme spanning over 22 days. To accompany the festival, the Volkskundemuseum Wien (Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art) is putting on an exhibition, ‘Before the Throwaway Society’, displaying repaired objects from the museum’s collections, which demonstrate that it was commonplace 100 years ago to repair everyday objects.
